Everything you need to know about comparing and switching Canadian cell phone plans.
Upload a PDF or photo of your most recent cellular bill. Our system reads key details — your provider, monthly cost, data plan, and actual usage — using secure document scanning. We then compare that against current approved plans from all major Canadian carriers and surface the best matches for your usage profile.
We compare plans from Bell, Rogers, Telus, Freedom Mobile, Koodo, Fido, Virgin Plus, Public Mobile, Fizz, Eastlink, and more. Our database is continuously updated with current plans as carriers publish them.
No. CeliSavr is completely free for consumers. We're paid by carriers when a customer switches — we never charge you, and we never sell your data.
Recommendations are based on your actual usage extracted from your bill — not estimates. We use real data like how many gigabytes you used this cycle, not just what your plan allows. We also add a 15% headroom buffer on data so you won't accidentally under-buy.
Yes. All uploads are encrypted in transit and at rest. We follow PIPEDA (Canada's federal privacy law) and only collect what's needed to generate your comparison. Your bill data is never sold or shared with third parties. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Account & Privacy settings.
We extract: your carrier name, billing period, total amount, monthly plan cost per line, data plan size, actual data used, and — where available — call minutes and messages used. We do not read or store your account number, banking details, or any personal correspondence.
Absolutely not. There's no obligation whatsoever. We show you what's available — the choice is entirely yours.
Yes. Canadian law guarantees your right to port your existing number to any carrier. When you sign up with a new provider, simply ask them to transfer your number — it typically takes a few hours and your old service stays active until the transfer completes.
As of June 12, 2026, the CRTC has banned Canadian carriers from charging activation fees, plan modification fees, and early cancellation fees. If a carrier tries to charge you any of these, you have the right to dispute it.
Fixed-term contracts are still valid, but carriers cannot charge you more than the remaining device subsidy to cancel — not an arbitrary early-termination fee. If you're near the end of your contract, it's worth waiting it out before switching so you owe nothing.
BYOD stands for Bring Your Own Device. Most plans today are BYOD — you use your existing unlocked phone and just swap or activate a new SIM. BYOD plans are almost always cheaper than plans that bundle in a new phone on financing. If your phone is still locked to your current carrier, ask them to unlock it (Canadian carriers are required to unlock devices for free).
An eSIM is a digital SIM built into your phone — instead of inserting a plastic card, you activate your plan by scanning a QR code from your new carrier. Most phones sold since 2020 support eSIM. The benefit: you can switch carriers in minutes without waiting for a SIM to arrive in the mail, and you can keep a second plan active simultaneously.
It depends on your plan. Most modern Canadian plans throttle your speed (slow you down to ~512 Kbps) rather than charging overage fees — this is the safest option. Some older or premium plans charge per-GB overage rates instead. Check the 'If you exceed data' row on any recommendation we show you to see exactly what your potential plan does.
Postpaid plans bill you at the end of each month (like a regular bill) and usually offer more data for the price. Prepaid plans require payment upfront and are great for people who want no credit check, no contract, and full control — but typically offer less data per dollar. Public Mobile and Fizz are examples of popular prepaid-style carriers.
'Canada-wide' means unlimited calls and texts anywhere in Canada. 'Canada & US' means your plan works in both countries with no roaming charges. 'Canada, US & Mexico' covers all three — useful if you travel frequently. Always confirm roaming details with the carrier before you travel.
